Ubong Ettebong
Ubong Ettebong (b. 2001, Uyo, Nigeria) is a full-time studio artist whose practice draws deeply from his personal experiences and immediate environment.
A graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, he uses art as a tool for emotional expression and social reflection, often addressing themes of identity, memory, and resilience. Growing up in Uyo, Ettebong found refuge in art during early life struggles, shaping a vision rooted in authenticity and storytelling.
Working predominantly with oil on canvas, his style is marked by symbolic backgrounds, distinct patterns, and textured impasto surfaces. His earthy tones, contrasted with bursts of vibrant color, create a compelling visual language. Mentored by Damilola Opedun, a key figure in the Neo-Black Art movement, Ettebong’s work engages Black narratives and invites viewers to reflect on the hidden layers of self and society. His works are held in several public and private collections both in Nigeria and abroad.
